Orioles 7, Rockies 2: Davis', Jones' home runs prove too much to overcome

Scott Feldman delivered his best start since joining the Orioles rotation with 6.2 innings of two run baseball. The Rockies offense was limited to just two runs on eight hits and it wasn't until the seventh that they really threatened. Down 3-0 in the seventh the Rockies mounted a a rally behind doubles from Todd Helton and Charlie Blackmon.

Helton lead off the inning with a double to right, after Nolan Arenado flew out to right while advancing Helton to third, Blackmon doubled Helton home. Blackmon stole third and scored on a good situational at bat from Yorvit Torrealbawho grounded out to short to produce the run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Josh Outman allowed two runs to score on a Brian Roberts single to center making the score 5-2 and effectively taking the wind out of Colorado's sails. In the eighth, Baltimore tacked on two more runs off Edgmer Escalona when Chris Davis hit his major league leading 45th home run. Davis and Adam Jones --who hit his  25th home run in the third --were a combined 7-for-10 with two home runs, four RBIs, and five runs scored from the three and four spots in the lineup.

Jhoulys Chacin battled through 5.1 innings and while it was not his most efficient outing (103 pitches) he still kept a potent Baltimore offense mainly in check, despite allowing nine hits and two walks. All things considered, leaving with just a 3-0 deficit is not something the Rockies couldn't have overvcome, especially given that Scott Feldmanwas on the hill for the O's.

Unfortunately, the Rockies went just 1-for-9 with RISP, couple that with Baltimore's late inning runs and the Rockies wound up eventual losers on Sunday afternoon.
