Tuesday Pebble Report: Collin McHugh dominant in loss

Triple-A Colorado Springs: L 1-0 (62-65, 3rd, 10.5 GB)

Collin McHugh was excellent on the mound for the Sky Sox, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just three hits and a walk while racking up nine strikeouts. Unfortunately for McHugh, Colorado Springs registered just four hits on offense and lost on a walk-off force out in the bottom of the 10th.

Steven Hensley, who walked two and allowed a hit in 1 2/3 innings of work, was charged with the run and the loss. Manny Corpas struck out two and allowed one hit in 1 2/3 frames of scoreless relief.

A Asheville: W 4-2, L 4-0 (21-35 2nd half, 7th, 13 GB)

T.J. Oakes went six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits to earn the win in Game 1 of the Tourists' doubleheader against Hagerstown. Juan Ciriaco had two hits from the leadoff spot and Francisco Sosa went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs batted in.

Ben Hughes took the loss in the nightcap, allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Rosell Herrera had two hits while recently-promoted catcher Jose Briceno and infielder Zach Osborne, who were both with Grand Junction earlier in the month, each had one of Asheville's seven hits.

Short-Season A Tri-City: W 6-3 (10-15 2nd half, 4th, 2 GB)

The Dust Devils managed just four hits but took advantage of four errors and seven walks by Boise to give starting pitcher Logan Norris plenty of support. Norris lasted six innings and allowed three runs. Jonathan Vargas earned the win by pitching two scoreless innings during which he notched three strikeouts.

Chris O'Dowd and Sean Dwyer both doubled for Tri-City, which scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to break the tie.

Rookie Grand Junction: L 14-1 (4-15 2nd half, 4th, 8 GB)

Joel Payamps was not sharp, allowing three hits and three walks leading to four runs in two innings. None of Grand Junction's relievers fared much better, although Peter Tago struck out three and allowed only one run in 1 1/3 innings of work at the end of the game.

Miguel Dilone had two of the Rockies' six hits and Ryan Garvey tripled and scored the team's lone run.

Rookie DSL Rockies: L 3-2 (31-35, 6th, 17 GB)

Omar Carrizales and Yonathan Daza had two hits apiece for the Rockies, who outhit the DSL Phillies, 8-5, in the loss. Starter Hector Villarroel allowed just three hits and two walks in six innings of work, but also gave up three unearned runs thanks to his team's pair of critical errors.
