This game got off to an ominous start for the home team as starting pitcher Chad Bettis surrendered three first inning runs on a pair of Giant home runs, the first of which was literally giant as it traveled a reported 476 feet off the bat of Hunter Pence.
Hunter Pence's 1st inning HR was calculated at 476 feet, the longest HR in MLB this season.

Pence was followed by the "Kung fu Panda" Pablo Sandoval, who's home run was the first he had hit since about 25 lbs ago.
Bettis would settle down after that and still manage to work 6.0 innings and give up only one additional earned run. On the bright side of things, he only walked one batter today (struck out two) and managed to respond well after giving up early runs again. It would be nice to see him get a firmer grip on the early innings if he wants to be a starter in the future though.
Todd Helton went 0-3 today keeping him stalled at three hits short in his pursuit of 2,500. Wilin Rosario, did his best Todd Helton imitation, though, getting two opposite field singles on pitches away from him, one of which drove in a run. Sadly, Rosario was the only Rockie to have a multi-hit day.
The rest of the Rockies offense did what one might expect, they lightly sprinkled pieces of false hope over a pizza of missed opportunities.
Charlie Blackmon's RBI double over the head of center fielder Gregor Blanco was a promising smell coming out of the oven but just like that the Rockies dropped the pie on the floor on it's way to the display case by failing to tally a sac fly or run scoring fielder's choice.
The Rockies offense was stymied by Giants starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit, from the sentence, "wait, who is Yusmeiro Petit?" They managed eight hits but left a Justin Timberlake backup dance crew (17) on base.
This game felt like chasing someone on an escalator next to you that's moving faster than yours. There were times it looked like we might catch them, but they were always just a few steps ahead.
