Jonathan Gray (PuRP #1) is 1-0 so far in his professional career, though his win-loss record may be an M.C. Esher painting of meaninglessness considering his strict innings and pitch limits thus far combined with the disparity of the defense's and offense's in MLB versus the minor leagues all, of course, looking at itself through the mirror that is misleading nature of the stat to begin with.
More importantly, Jon Gray has pitched 18.1 innings in four games for the Grand Junction Rockies and one for the Modesto Nuts. He has given up 17 hits and 8 runs (though only six were earned) while walking only two and striking out 22. Opponents are hitting .243.
He has put these numbers together while working on using his change-up more, a pitch most scouts counted as his third best. It started to look and feel like a dominant pitch during his last start in Grand Junction, and he hopes to continue his positive trend tonight against the Lancaster Jethawks. Gray struck out seven in his last start.
Other prospects to keep an eye on in this one include Ryan Casteel, Trevor Story, and Will Swanner.
