Chris O'Dowd homers, Taylor Featherston notches 2 hits in Rafters' 8-4 loss

New, comment

The Rockies showed extremely well on Saturday, though Trevor Story's early exit might be a cause for concern. But probably not.

Despite strong performances from each Colorado Rockies farmhand who appeared on Saturday, the Salt River Rafters lost for just the third time in 10 Arizona Fall League games, dropping an 8-4 decision to the Mesa Solar Sox.

Taxi squad catcher Chris O'Dowd made the most of his second AFL game, finishing 2-for-4 with a solo home run to lead the Rafters' offense. Taylor Featherston added a pair of hits, and Trevor Story notched an RBI double and scored a run in the third inning before being removed from the game. Story drew a walk in his first plate appearance.

Ken Roberts worked two scoreless innings of relief, extending his shutout streak to six frames. Roberts has allowed just one hit during that stretch, which encompasses four appearances. The 26-year-old left-hander has held opposing batters to an .056 average while getting the overwhelming majority of his outs via grounders.

Ryan Casteel is in the lineup today for the Rafters, who take on the Peoria Javelias at 1:35 p.m. MT. Nelson Gonzalez, who owns a couple of victories in relief and, like Roberts, has yet to allow a run, is scheduled to appear out of the bullpen.
