The Colorado Rockies will retire the jersey of the one and only Todd Helton during the weekend of Aug. 15-17, the team announced via its official Twitter feed on Thursday.

More Todd Helton
Helton will become the first player in the history of the team to have his jersey retired. The only other number retired by the Rockies is Jackie Robinson's No. 42, which was forever hung up league-wide, with the notable exception of legendary New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, in 1997. Helton finished his illustrious big-league career last September with a strikeout against Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to cap off a challenging season in which the Toddfather hit .249/.314/.423 with 15 home runs.
Helton spent all 17 of his years as a major-leaguer with the Rockies, posting a .316/.414/.539 line with 369 homers and 592 doubles in 9,453 plate appearances.
The Rockies will promote the weekend-long event with the hashtag #Retire17. Colorado hosts the Cincinnati Reds that weekend in a three-game series that will include multiple Helton-related promotions, including a pair of bobblehead giveaways and free collectible jerseys.
The ceremony is expected to take place prior to the finale of the series on Aug. 17.
