Though the lineup lost Michael Cuddyer and Wilin Rosario before the game even started (for precautionary measures), the Rockies had no trouble scoring against Angels pitching. Of course, it helps when Angels pitching consists of Joe Blanton. Troy Tulowitzki was not impressed with Blanton's offerings, crushing a couple of dingers off the soft-tosser.
Jorge De La Rosa was much sharper today than he was in his Cactus League debut. He allowed one run in his three innings of work while striking out two. Relievers Rex Brothers and LaTroy Hawkins each gave up a hit but no runs in their lone frames. Christian Bergman got slapped around a little, but only gave up one run. In all, it was a solid day for Rockies pitching.
On the other side of the ball it was home run derby. In addition to Tulowitzki's bombs, Michael McKenry and Josh Rutledge both went yard off Blanton. That's especially encouraging to see from Rutledge, who has been limited by injury in the early going of Spring Training.
Brandon Barnes had another strong day at the plate by going 3 for 3. He's been very impressive so far.
24 days until opening day!
