Rockies 3, Phillies 1: Lyles shuts down Phillies offense, Morneau goes deep

Jordan Lyles pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run and Justin Morneau provided all the offense the Rockies would need with a two-run home run in a 3-1 win over the Phillies.

The Rockies got another good start from Jordan Lyles and grabbed the series win over the Phillies with a 3-1 win Saturday night.

Lyles pitched seven innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits in seven innings with a walk and a pair of strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 3.04 on the season.

The Rockies got on the board in the third when Nolan Arenado scored from first on a DJ LeMahieu single. Arenado was initially ruled out on the play but the call was overturned when a replay review confirmed that Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz was blocking the plate without the ball, violating the rule put in place this season.

The Phillies presented their only real threat against Lyles in the fourth, loading the bases with one out, but the Rockies righty got Domonic Brown to ground into a double play to end the inning.

Colorado expanded the lead in the bottom of the fourth, which Carlos Gonzalez led off with a single. Troy Tulowitzki then flew out to deep left and Justin Morneau hit a two-run home run, his third of the year, to expand the Rockies' lead to 3-0.

Kendrick had a solid outing of his own, allowing three runs on on six hits in seven innings without issuing a walk and striking out three.

Lyles came out to start the eighth, but gave up a leadoff single to Cody Asche and was removed in favor of Boone Logan, who allowed Asche to come around to score on his own throwing error and a run-scoring groundout.

It took seven pitches for LaTroy Hawkins to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.

The Rockies will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon as Juan Nicasio takes the mound against Philadelphia's Roberto Hernandez. First pitch at Coors Field is at 2:10 MT.
