Colorado Springs 2, New Orleans 0
In a game that may be indicative of a sort we may be seeing more often at our AAA level this year thanks to our new alignment, the Sky Sox squeaked by New Orleans on a superb outing for Christian Friedrich. He allowed just one hit, which in the seventh inning, which would be as long as the starter lasted in the game. He also walked a batter while striking out three. Chris Martin, who has been moved to setup after struggling early in the year, struck out two batters in the eighth. Brooks Brown, Martin's replacement in the closer's role for now, allowed three baserunners in the ninth but escaped cleanly, preserving the shutout. Friedrich was awarded his first win of the season.
Charlie Culberson led the Sky Sox offense with two hits, including a double and a run scored. The double was the only extra-base hit of the Sky Sox' five total. Kyle Parker scored the other run, while knocking in the first, and also reached via a walk. Michael McKenry reached base twice and stole a base. Four Sky Sox batters went hitless with multiple strikeouts; the team struck out 12 times, making this win even more impressive.
Monday probables:
- Sky Sox (Christian Bergman) @ New Orleans
- Drillers (Daniel Winkler) @ Arkansas
- Bakersfield @ Nuts (TBD; most likely one of Jayson Aquino, Ryan Gibbard or Andrew Brown)
