Game Preview: Lyles vs. Collmenter

Well, we just recently got the news that Tyler Chatwood is heading back to the disabled list. Alas. It seems the Rockies' sixth and seventh starters will continue to get their chances even with the return of Jhoulys Chacin.

That seventh starter though, Jordan Lyles, has performed like an absolute pro. Lyles gets the start tonight, and he brings an impressive record. His superb 2.93 ERA leads the club, and his 57.6% ground ball rate plays right into the Rockies' strength, which is fabulous infield defense. Oh, and the Rockies have won four out of his five starts.

He will be attempting to bring the Rockies their first sweep of the season. The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to salvage one game in this series, and they will turn to the deceptive Josh Collmenter. Collmenter is yet another soft-tossing junkballer (the D'backs are swimming with them). His unique over-the-shoulder delivery was modeled after throwing axes at trees. GRITTY. It's worked for him though, whether starting or relieving; he has a career 3.39 ERA.

Though all recent reports have been positive, Wilin Rosario is sitting out yet again. The Rockies haven't lost since Jordan Pacheco got pressed into every day duty, but it would be nice to see the Baby Bull get back in the game. His hand really needs to get better.

Drew Stubbs gets the center field nod, perhaps as reward for his game winning home run last night. He doesn't usually start against righties, but maybe the Rockies figured Collmenter's delivery is funky enough that it doesn't really matter. At least it puts the optimal defensive unit out there.

Game starts at 7:40 MST. Go Rockies.
