How do you eat an ice cream cone? One lick at a time. The Rockies earned an early season winning record by winning one game at a time and they earned themselves a deficit in the win column one game at a time. Last night's start by Tyler Matzek was one game but it will hopefully kick start this team into a winning streak.
This afternoon, Jhoulys Chacin will try and take over from where the rookie left off and earn a series split with the Atlanta Braves. Since coming back from a spring training injury, Jhoulys has veen averaging about 5.5 innings and about 3.5 earned runs. He missed having to pitch against the Braves in the recent road trip nor has he done well against them in the last two years with an ERA over six. Chacin's last outing, this past weekend against the Dodgers, was probably his best this year though, so maybe he is making progress in his return from injury.
Ervin Santana will be the Braves starter. He also was not on the mound during the Rockies road trip to Atlanta this year. For the year, he is sporting a 3.69 ERA and averaging almost 7 innings per start. In his last trip to Coors Field, he gave up 7 earned runs in just under 6 innings and earned a loss.
