Complete Rockies 2014 draft class

Is this the draft class that finally helps the Rockies win an NL West title in the next four to five years?

Rich Schultz

Somewhere between 35 and 40 new players will make their professional debut in the Rockies organization sometime this summer. Only a few of those will carve out any sort of success at the highest levels of the system, but until then, every single one of these guys represents a player who can be dreamed on in some form.

Here's a complete list of the Rockies' 2014 draftees:

A few quick thoughts:

  • Sam Bumpers is an 80-grade name for a shortstop.
  • The Rockies now have the Brothers Brothers in the organization. Try to wrap your head around what order "the Brothers Brothers" was intended to be in.
  • I wish I could find more information on some of the high schoolers at the back end of the draft, but of those players, Nathan Rodriguez might be the most intriguing. Rodriguez has a chance to be an elite defender behind the plate and could mold into an above-average hitter at the position, according to one scout I talked to. His commitment to Arkansas is a strong one, though, so it's probably unlikely that the Rockies are able to pry him away from it.
Check out the rest of our draft coverage here, and stay tuned for a few more blurbs on the 2014 class.
