Today's lineup looks more like a spring training split-squad game, but such are the ravages of 2014. Tulo is dead, Morneau is dead, Cargo is sitting and so is Rosario. Not exactly the personnel you want on the sidelines whey you are desperate to halt an apocalyptic losing streak.
On the bright side, Jorge De La Rosa is pitching. He occasionally knows what he's doing. He may not be an ace, but he's having a perfectly capable season with his 4.39 ERA in 108.2 innings. He may not be long for the Rockies, as contenders have been watching him closely, but if he twirls a couple more solid starts we might get some shiny prospect for him.
I can't figure out from the Twitter why Carlos Gonzalez isn't starting. Maybe it's because he is striking out in virtually every at bat.
Stephen Strasburg is going for the Nationals. He's really really good. Like, top five pitcher in the NL good.
But you know what? It's all good. We're gonna watch baseball on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. It's July 23 and I, personally, have had a great summer. Outside the Rockies, 2014 has been a good year. So watch or listen to the game, or don't do that. Whichever makes you happier.
