The Complete Summer 2014 Purple Row Prospects List

After revealing the PuRPs list five players at a time, it's time to wrap up the series by showing the whole list at once. So without further ado, here is the full Summer 2014 Purple Row community prospect list:

In this edition of the PuRPs poll, 20 ballots were cast, with 30 points being granted for a first place vote, 29 for second, etc. Until a player was named on seven ballots, his vote totals were modified on a sliding scale to avoid an individual ballot having too much say over the community forecast -- only one of the players on this edition of the list was listed on fewer than seven ballots.

It was a runaway first place performance, though not unanimous as it was last time, by Jon Gray in this edition of the PuRPs poll. Gray garnered 17 of the 20 first place votes, while David Dahl got two and Eddie Butler one. Dahl and Butler were very closely matched, but all of Dahl's votes were in the top four while Butler had a couple of down-ballot votes. Beyond those two, only five points separated Trevor Story in fourth, Raimel Tapia in fifth, and Ryan McMahon in sixth. Behind those three was a gap, with prospects 7-11 forming a clear tier of players that the electorate felt were potential MLB impact players.

Other clear tiers were 12-15, 16-19, 20-22, 18-21, 23-27, and 28-30. Looking back on past PuRPs lists, it appears that Colorado's farm system is a little stronger than the winter 2013 list, as only Chad Bettis was lost from the winter list. From this June's draft, four picks made this edition of the list. Some more notes:

• In all, 14 players were on every ballot, 68 players received at least one vote for this PuRPs list (up from 56 last time), 53 got mentioned on multiple ballots, 31 were named on at least 7 ballots (and therefore were unmodified), and all of the top 26 were named on at least 10 ballots, showing that most of the list was more or less agreed upon by the community, if not necessarily the order. • In addition to the aforementioned Bettis (8), here were the other players that were dropped off the list in this edition: Will Swanner (24), Max White (25), Christian Bergman (26), Tim Wheeler (27), Terry McClure (28), and Ryan Warner (30).
• If you've done the math right, you've realized that seven new players made this summer's PuRPs list. The new entrants to the list are Kyle Freeland (7), Forrest Wall (12), Correlle Prime (23), Ryan Castellani (25), Helmis Rodriguez (27), Chris Martin (28), and Kevin Padlo (30).

Here are the five players who came closest to inclusion on the Summer 2014 PuRPs List:

34. Hamlet Marte (34.3 points, 6 ballots), 2011 FA (DR), C at Grand Junction (20)

Breaking the list down by position, there are 13 pitchers (12 of them are nominally starters, eight are righties, five are southpaws, two are in the top three but only four are in the top ten), six middle infielders, four outfielders (two of which could play CF, depending on the scout you ask), four catchers, and three corner infielders. It looks like there will be several top prospects that will be MLB ready all in the next year or two (or are producing in MLB already), so it won't be long before we start seeing some of these guys producing for the Rockies.
