Game preview: Greinke vs. Morales

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Franklin Morales gets another chance to start and it only took depleting the AAA and AA pitching staffs before the Rockies turned to him.  As far as Rockies' starters go, his record isn't that bad at 4-4 but the 5.75 ERA leaves something to be desired.  Perhaps the combination of Morales to the rotation and Nolan Arenado to the big league club can be the boost the Rockies need.  Of the two, it is Nolan Arenado who the team has seemed to miss the most.  They have only won a handful of games since he got hurt in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, Zack Greinke is playing the role of Robin to Clayton Kershaw's Batman.  Zack has only given up more than three earned runs twice this season in 17 starts this year.  In the month of June, there was only one start that he didn't last at least six innings, including two starts against Colorado (one of which the Rockies won).

It will be interesting to see how Walt Weiss uses Nolan Arenado in this series.  Nolan was in every game before his broken finger from a head first slide.  Since his injury, five players have attempted to fill the position with varying degrees of success.  If he comes back and is able to resume his gold glove defense that will be sufficient even if his bat takes awhile to show back up.  If he can come back how he was hitting right before he got hurt, so much the better.
