It was good to bring Nolan Arenado back for the home series against the Dodgers, but his bat didn't look quite ready for the return yet. He also wasn't allowed to give his gold glove to Wilin Rosario and so an unearned run was scored due to a passed ball. On a night when i thought the Rockies could have lost by several runs, Franklin Morales kept the team in the game but the offense, including Nolan Arenado, couldn't score enough runs.
Nolan went 0 for 4 on the night with the biggest out being a strikeout on a Zach Greinke fastball at eye level with runners on the corners to end the eighth. He isn't the only one to blame, as Troy Tulowitzki came to the plate with Justin Morneau on third with only one out and ended up flying out to shallow left field in the eighth inning prior to Nolan striking out to end the inning. That left the game tied at two and then LaTroy Hawkins came in to earn the loss in the ninth by giving up a leadoff walk that turned into a run.
Catcher giving up a passed ball that allows for a sacrifice fly to give the Dodgers a lead: check. Unable to get a sacrifice to take the lead in the eighth inning: check. Closer giving up leadoff walks and game losing runs: check. It appears that Nolan's return has not changed much and the Rockies lost in typical Rockies' fashion tonight.
