Social Media Roundup, Week 18: Purple and Black Turn Red, White and Blue

Here are the highlights, lowlights and tail-lights from Rockies baseball in cyberspace.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Hello, everybody, this is not Mel Allen! It’s been a busy baseball week: some of it good, some of it bad, but all of it worth recommending, liking, favoriting and retweeting!

The Rockies already are underway preparing for the big weekend this August, where the team will honor Todd Helton and retire his number 17. Helton took time for a photo shoot, and the Rockies' shared a sneak preview:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Photo shoot time. The August <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Rockies?src=hash">#Rockies</a> Magazine will be all Todd for <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Retire17?src=hash">#Retire17</a>. <a href="http://t.co/BmqBGCet3m">http://t.co/BmqBGCet3m</a> <a href="http://t.co/axoXQbLopf">pic.twitter.com/axoXQbLopf</a></p>&mdash; Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) <a href="https://twitter.com/Rockies/statuses/484054595404984320">July 1, 2014</a></blockquote>

Hey, there's even a quick clip:

In the meantime, the Rockies spent the week getting ready for their Independence Day celebration. The team used Facebook to show off its brand new stars-and-stripes cap:

<div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));</script>

<div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152502392461113&amp;set=a.10151913606886113.1073741830.64466991112&amp;type=1" data-width="466"><div class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152502392461113&amp;set=a.10151913606886113.1073741830.64466991112&amp;type=1">Post</a> by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Rockies">Colorado Rockies</a>.</div></div>

And yesterday kicked off the Fourth of July festivities, with an impressive flag unfurling for the national anthem, followed by a terrific fireworks show. The Rockies gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the work that makes the fireworks so great.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/RockiesFireworks?src=hash">#RockiesFireworks</a>, like you&#39;ve never seen them before: <a href="http://t.co/kmE2DSgVo1">pic.twitter.com/kmE2DSgVo1</a></p>&mdash; Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) <a href="https://twitter.com/Rockies/statuses/484913031810269185">July 4, 2014</a></blockquote>

But it's the fireworks themselves that please the crowd, and the Rockies provided a clip for those who weren't there to see it:

And that’s the way it is for the Social Media Rodeo on the week of June 30. Have a good holiday weekend, buckaroos, and let's watch the Rockies beat the Dodgers!
