Carlos Gonzalez shut down for knee surgery, Rockies lose another star - Denver Post
Losing Cargo for the season literally a day after losing Tulo is like getting a black eye one day and then getting bit by a rabid dachshund the next. The article is filled with quotes from a bummed out Cargo, and it sounded like he was playing through some serious pain. He visited a number of doctors, and decided surgery on his knee was the way to go. On the "bright" side, 2014 is already kaput, so get him right for 2015 and go from there.
Charlie Culberson belts three-run HR to give Rockies 7-3 win over Cincinnati - Denver Post
Go ahead, treat yourself to a victorious game wrap from Nick Groke, who is always good. It's not often you hear about Charlie Culberson being a hero.
Manfred to succeed Selig as commissioner - MLB.com
Bud "Friend" Selig is stepping down from the MLB commissionership next year, and the owners got together to elect a new one yesterday. By a 30-0 vote they elected Rob Manfred. Now, I had no idea who that was, but baseball Twitter was predictably sarcastic and snarky, claiming he's basically a Selig clone. Sounds fine to me; I've lived all but two of my years in the Selig era and baseball seems okay to me.
It would have been cool if Dick Monfort had gone rogue on the whole thing and nominated a golden retriever for commissioner. I bet it would have won too; have you ever tried voting against a golden retriever? You can't do it, it's physically impossible. I don't know if it would do a very good job, but at least it would be adorable while doing it. They could dress it up in little suits and stuff. Later, Disney could make a movie out of it, call it Air Commissioner.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that 2014 sucks.
