The affiliates posted a winning day, going 4-2 in support of the big league club's extra innings victory.
AAA: Colorado Springs 12, Albuquerque 10
In a high scoring PCL game, Ben Paulsen was the standout. Paulsen went 3-5 with three homers and seven RBI to lead the Sky Sox. The first baseman hit a grand slam in the 3rd, a solo shot in the 5th, and a two run blast in the 6th for his 16th, 17th, and 18th homers of the season. Also in on the 15 hit onslaught were Jason Pridie (who went 3-4 and hit his 12th homer), Angelys Nina (2-4), Tim Smalling (2-4), and Cristhian Adames (first AAA home run).
After suffering several tough luck losses at the big league level, Yohan Flande was the beneficiary of the other side of the win stat coin. Flande struggled through 5 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits, three walks, and eight runs while striking out four. Still though, he was credited for the win because his team was up 10-8 when he left. Oh, PCL.
AA: Tulsa 13, Springfield 3
The Kandy man can! Aussie David Kandilas provided some offense for the Drillers in this one, going 3-5 with his fourth homer (a three run bomb) and five RBI. Trevor Story (PuRP 4) and Chris O'Dowd both had three hit games for Tulsa, while Taylor Featherston (PuRP 26) had two hits and his 15th homer of the year. Carlos Hernandez got the win, going six innings and allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Hernandez is very quietly having a decent year for Tulsa, putting up a 2.76 ERA in 117 1/3 innings pitched.
High A: Modesto 14, High Desert 1
I'm not sure how this was even possible. The Nuts pulled back to 50 games under .500 with a blowout win. Six Modesto players had multi-hit games: Jordan Ribera, Kyle Van Tungeln, Juan Ciriaco, Michael Ramirez, Pat Valaika (PuRP 17), and David Dahl (PuRP 2). Ribera and Dahl both had three RBI in the game. Devin Burke got the win on the mound, throwing six excellent frames - he allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight. Special shout-out to relievers Jacob Newberry and Jon Keck, who struck out eight of the nine batters they faced in relief.
Low A: Delmarva 6, Asheville 2
It was not a pretty game for the Tourists. Asheville committed five errors in the game, including two each by Ryan McMahon (PuRP 6) and Cesar Galvez and one by Emerson Jimenez.. That brings McMahon's error total in 2014 to 30 and Jimenez's to 24. McMahon did redeem himself somewhat at the plate, going 2-4, including his 45th double on the year. Raimel Tapia (PuRP 5) also added two hits for the Tourists to raise his batting average to .333 on the year. Zach Jemiola took the loss, allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits in his five innings of work.
Short Season A: Tri-City 6, Salem-Keizer 2
The Dust Devils maintained their slim 1.5 game lead in the division with the win yesterday. Marcos Derkes (he also stole three bases), Shane Hoelscher (two doubles), Ryan Garvey, and Robbie Perkins all had multi-hit games for Tri-City. Blake Shouse pitched six innings of two run ball (one earned) while allowing five hits and four walks to get the win.
Rookie: Ogden 10, Grand Junction 9 (F-10)
Chalk this one up as a tough loss. Grand Junction had a 8-4 lead that turned into a 9-8 deficit - then they evened the score in the ninth only to lose in the tenth. It was GJ's third straight loss and it narrowed their division lead to just 1.5 games. Dom Nunez (PuRP 19) was the offensive star in this one, going 3-5 with a two run homer (8) and three RBI. The game brought Nunez's season line up to .333/.401/.567. Forrest Wall (PuRP 12) added two hits and RBI, while Henry Garcia and Luis Castro each had two knocks. James Lomangino got a no-decision in the start, going five innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
