Also, Kirk Gibson exists.
All of those things combine for a better-than-usual chance of seeing an intentional bean ball or two tonight when Arizona and Colorado square off in a battle of LOL-worthy squads on Friday night at Chase Field. I'm pretty ignorant, so I just assume that the D-Backs target a potential beanball candidate on a nightly basis. Who will it be tonight? You decide!
Carlos Gonzalez is the star of the lineup despite his disappointing and injury-riddled season. That automatically makes him a pretty significant candidate for taking one in the ribs. But I wouldn't underestimate Corey Dickerson, Nolan Arenado or Charlie Blackmon, any of whom could be mistaken at any point for looking at Gibson the wrong way or something stupid like that.
Editor's Note: SB Nation's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $18,000 Fantasy Baseball league for tonight's MLB games. It's $2 to join and first prize is $2,000. Here's the link; jump in now!
Here are the lineups, and afterward, you can vote on who will be the purple-clad beanball favorite for the D-Backs.
