Tommy Kahnle and Nick Masset combined to give up nine runs on eight hits with the help of two Rockies errors in the bottom of the eighth inning, turning a close game into a 14-4 rout in favor of the Diamondbacks.
23-57.
In their last 80 games, since their 22-14 start, the Rockies are 23-57. That's half a season of playing at a 46-win pace. Even with the hot start, the Rockies are on pace to finish at 63-99, the worst mark in franchise history.
The Rockies actually had a 3-1 lead early thanks in part to a pair of RBIs from Nolan Arenado, but Arizona went in front in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run by Mark Trumbo that gave his team a 4-3 lead. The Diamondbacks extended the lead to 5-3 on Alfredo Marte's home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Arenado hit his career-high 11th home run of the season in the top of the righth to answer Arizona's seventh-inning run before the disastrous bottom of the eighth.
The Rockies will try to salvage a game in the series tomorrow at 2:10 p.m. Mountain time with Franklin Morales taking on Wade Miley.
