Rockies 5, Diamondbacks 1: Eddie Butler gets first career win as Rockies win fifth straight

Josh Rutledge and Corey Dickerson each homered to power the offense as the Rockies took their third straight game against Arizona and fifth straight overall.

Rookie Eddie Butler earned his first win in his second career start as the Rockies extended their winning streak to five with a 5-1 win over he Diamondbacks.

Butler allowed just one run, a Jake Lamb home run, on five hits in his six innings of work with a walk and a strikeout, throwing 81 pitches, 53 for strikes to get the win.

The Rockies got on the board in the first when Justin Morneau's two-out single was followed by an RBI triple by Corey Dickerson to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. They extended the lead in the third with a two-run home run by Josh Rutledge, his fourth of the season, that extended the lead to 3-0. They added a third run in the inning and fourth of the game when Ben Paulsen singled home Morneau, who had doubled.

Arizona got its lone run on Lamb's solo home run with one out in the fifth, but Dickerson answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot of his own to extend the Rockies' lead back to four at 5-1.

With Butler out of the game after six, Franklin Morales pitched a scoreless seventh, Christian Friedrich and Adam Ottavino combined on clean eighth inning and LaTroy Hawkins closed the door in the ninth to secure the victory.

The Rockies will go for the four-game sweep tomorrow to close out the home schedule as Christian Bergman faces Wade Miley. First pitch is at 2:10 p.m. MT.
