Saturday Rockpile: start of irrelevancy

Colorado sports' fans may soon be too busy to notice the Rockies this September...the sportswriters already are there.

With professional football starting this week and the Broncos game being nationally televised tomorrow, the Colorado Rockies are almost forgotten about on the internet.  Only their first complete game of the season pitched by Tyler Matzek and Jorge De La Rosa's first start after signing his contract extension were noteworthy by the credentialed media this morning.

This was Tyler Matzek's first career complete game shutout and the first Rockies complete game, let alone, complete game shutout this year.  This moves the Rockies out of a tie for last place with the Cubs in number of complete games and puts them six games away from the leaders in the category: San Francisco, LA Dodgers, and...the Houston Astros?!

The new 25 million dollar man will get to prove yet again why he loves playing at Coors Field today.  Jorge De La Rosa looks to get his 14th win of the season and his 7th in a row at Coors Field as the Rockies try to build a winning streak.
