Saturday Rockpile: start of irrelevancy

Colorado sports' fans may soon be too busy to notice the Rockies this September...the sportswriters already are there.

Dustin Bradford

With professional football starting this week and the Broncos game being nationally televised tomorrow, the Colorado Rockies are almost forgotten about on the internet.  Only their first complete game of the season pitched by Tyler Matzek and Jorge De La Rosa's first start after signing his contract extension were noteworthy by the credentialed media this morning.

Tyler Matzek pitches Rockies' best outing of 2014 -

This was Tyler Matzek's first career complete game shutout and the first Rockies complete game, let alone, complete game shutout this year.  This moves the Rockies out of a tie for last place with the Cubs in number of complete games and puts them six games away from the leaders in the category: San Francisco, LA Dodgers, and...the Houston Astros?!

De La Rosa, Rox look to secure series victory -

The new 25 million dollar man will get to prove yet again why he loves playing at Coors Field today.  Jorge De La Rosa looks to get his 14th win of the season and his 7th in a row at Coors Field as the Rockies try to build a winning streak.

I wish there was more to share with you today.  Please post for everyone anything else you think is worthy in the comment section below.
