Apologies for the late Rockpile! Forgive us, for it is the holiday season. We've been out shopping for sweet Colorado Rockies stocking stuffers, anyways. Here's your daily diet of news, notes and links around the Rox and Major League Baseball for this Tuesday afternoon!
Cardinals sign Mike Leake — MLB Trade Rumors
So the St. Louis Cardinals went and did it, for five years, at $80 million, with a mutual sixth-year option. We profiled Leake long ago as a free agent, knowing how unlikely it'd be that he come to Colorado, but he chose to stay in the NL Central where he's pitched the vast majority of his career, anyways. Now will other free agent dominos start to fall? Does any of this mean anything for the Rockies' various trade candidates? Who knows. We'd just love some news to report and break down!
Current World Series odds point to parity problem in the NL — ESPN.com
The Rockies — along with the Braves, Padres, Reds, and Phillies — have the worst odds to win a World Series in 2016. This surprises... absolutely nobody. I don't know if it's a parity problem (as in a long-term thing that is akin to the NBA's Eastern Conference/Western Conference dichotomy) or just the fact that those five NL clubs are really going to suck this year. Either way, feel free to make other October plans, Rockies fans!
Yard Goats tweeted their way to an identity — MiLB.com
Hey, these are the guys we profiled a couple months ago! Mike Abramson is a good dude and the Rockies have a fun affiliate at Double-A Hartford. I can't wait to see everything that happens next summer, not the least of which is the club's brand new stadium that is being constructed as we speak (write/read).
Rox Snapchat Shutdown — @Rockies
Did any of you do this? Does anybody out there use Snapchat? I have an account (bobbydemuro) but I don't really use it much anymore and haven't logged on to check what the Rox are doing there. At the end of the day, if the answer is anything but "acquiring starting pitchers, stupid," then Snapchat is ultimately a waste of time. Duh.
