There's a couple of very interesting games on the docket for Rockies fans today.
First, at 2:10 Tyler Matzek starts against the Padres, who roughed him up a bit earlier in the spring. I like that he gets another chance to face them. The Padres are a right-handed heavy team (seriously: Kemp, Myers, Upton, Quentin, Gyorko, etc.), which reminds me of that game last year when the right-handed Tigers destroyed Matzek. They put up eight runs in four innings, including a couple of dingers. If Matzek's work on his change up is progressing, he should start seeing more success against righties.
The lineup behind him is light, with only Blackmon, Stubbs, Arenado, and maybe McKenry likely to see significant major league time. They're up against Tyson Ross.
The night game (8:10 MT) is a real juicy one. Jon Gray gets the start against the D'Backs as he continues his quest to not give up a single run this spring. Tulo and Cargo are both in the starting lineup which is always a welcome sight. Other regulars include Morneau, Hundley, and LeMahieu. We also get a Trevor Story sighting at third base and...Josh Vitters at DH? Vitters was a hotshot prospect with the Cubs who never could transition to the higher levels of the game, and the Rockies signed him to a minor league contract. He's an interesting player.
You can listen to the first game on MLB.com (though it is the Padres broadcast), and the second game will be broadcast on KOA.
