Kyle Kendrick will make his fifth start of the spring against the division rival San Diego Padres in Peoria, Arizona. Kendrick will be facing former Kansas City Royal and World Series game one starter James Shields.
The Padres will roll out a lineup full of regular starters, which is common this close to the end of spring training. Luckily, the Padres finally have some exciting offensive hitters to watch in Justin Upton and Matt Kemp. James Shields, also known as "Big Game James," is making a great first impression with San Diego, striking out 16 batters and only allowing three runs in 12 innings of spring training work.
Wilin Rosario will have the start at first base today. He’s looked great defensively at first this spring, which is definitely encouraging as his future as a Rockie started to come into question when the Rockies brought in Nick Hundley to take over from behind the plate. Kendrick has looked good all spring, which is encouraging as a Rockies fan whose watched two projected starters disappear from the rotation in the last week. Walt Weiss continues to tinker with his lineup, batting Kyle Kendrick in the eighth spot, and putting DJ LeMahieu in the ninth spot.
