Eddie Butler will take the mound for his fifth appearance, and third start, of spring training as the Rockies travel to Mesa, Ariz. to face the Oakland Athletics.
Butler has pitched 13 2/3 innings this spring, posting a 2.63 ERA with three walks and eight strikeouts.
This afternoon's game also sees a return to the lineup for Carlos Gonzalez, who left Friday's game against the Padres with soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee. Gonzalez will play right field and bat third today. Today's lineup also features Wilin Rosario batting cleanup and playing first base.
Opposing Gonzalez, Rosario and the Rockies on the mound today is former Rockie Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz, a 26-year-old lefty, is fighting for a spot in the Oakland rotation and has a 3.09 ERA in 11 2/3 innings this spring. Today will mark Pomeranz's fifth spring start of 2015.
The A's lineup sees three newcomers through the heart of the order. Former Tampa Bay Ray Ben Zobrist plays second base and bats third and is followed in the lineup by first baseman Billy Butler and designated hitter Ike Davis.
First pitch today is at 2:05 Mountain Daylight Time.
