Nolan Arenado is an alien. Or a robot. Or a robot alien.
His stellar over-the-shoulder catch (#CoorsShield!) followed by Charlie Blackmon's jumping catch into the wall proved pivotal in stamping out a potential eighth inning rally; the only inning where the Giants seriously threatened.
Rafael Betancourt gave up the run to stop the Rockies from recording their first consecutive shutouts in over a decade, but managed to wriggle out of it with some help from the Leather Daddies.
The Rockies got doubles (yay, more doubles!) from Arenado and Troy Tulowitzki. Corey Dickerson had a three-hit day including a lead-off triple in the ninth. He came around to score on a well-executed sacrifice out from Wilin Rosario in a pinch-hit situation.
DJ LeMahieu continued his hot start, getting a hit, a walk, and an RBI.
Adam Ottavino had unbelievable stuff to close out the ninth in dominant fashion, striking out the side.
Also, congratulations to Scott Oberg for making his MLB debut, only the second Grand Junction Rockie to make it to the majors. He, oddly enough, earned the win.
For now, we leave you with this:
HERE IT IS. Watch Nolan make one of the best plays you'll ever see. #GoldenEveryday pic.twitter.com/m5TDtBBytM— Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) April 15, 2015
We are not worthy.
