Minor league Opening Day doesn't get the attention or romanticism that its MLB counterpart generates,. But for people like us, fans of a questionable major league squad with a highly regarded farm system, the minor league games can be just as exciting as the ones in the bigs.
All four full-season Colorado Rockies affiliates kick off the 2015 season on Thursday. Three clubs are on the road, while one -- the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes -- will have the benefit of their home crowd in the opener.
Here's the schedule, along with the probable starting pitchers (including Rockies ace Jorge De La Rosa, who is making a rehab appearance) for each game:
Triple-A Albuquerque vs. Reno (D-backs), 6:35 p.m. MT (MiLB.tv)
TBA vs. Jorge De La Rosa
Note: De La Rosa is expected to pitch three innings before giving way to Jon Gray, per 850 KOA's Andy Lindahl.
Double-A New Britain at New Hampshire (Blue Jays), 4:35 p.m. MT (MiLB.tv)
Ryan Carpenter vs. TBA
High-A Modesto at Lake Elsinore (Padres), 8 p.m. MT
Antonio Senzatela vs. Ryan Butler
Low-A Asheville at Rome (Braves), 5 p.m. MT (MiLB.tv)
Zach Jemiola vs. TBA
UPDATE (via RhodeIslandRoxfan, 2:00 p.m. MT):
The game scheduled between New Britain and New Hampshire this evening has been postponed thanks to truly awful weather here in New England. It's cold, raw, windy, with on and off rain and snow showers. Just not baseball weather at all. So sadly, no David Dahl today.
