Game No. 48 preview: Lyles hopes to rebound as Colorado looks to sweep the Phillies

New, comments

The Colorado Rockies will look to break out the brooms this afternoon in the third and final game of their series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Rockies hope to extend their win-streak to four games, and Jordan Lyles (2-5) will be working to put his last start against the San Francisco Giants behind him, which was prematurely ended by a sprained left toe after he allowed five earned runs on seven hits. Jerome Williams of the Philadelphia Phillies is similarly looking to rebound, having posted an ERA of 6.53 for the month of May.

Here's hoping Lyles can continue the impressive string of starts the Rockies have been getting from their rotation as of late, which has helped the team to a 7-3 record over their last 10 games. He hasn't looked good in his last two outings, allowing nine earned runs through ten innings, but the Phillies should serve as a nice opponent to work against in order to get back on track. Mired in the basement of the NL East, the 19-32 Phillies are hitting a near league-worst .237.

The Rockies, who are hitting .266 and near the top of the league in that category, are rolling with a lefty-heavy lineup. Ben Paulsen gets the start today in left and will be looking to continue to mash. He's been tearing the cover off of the ball lately and has a line of .359/.419/.667 with three home runs in 43 PAs. Tulo is getting a rest today, but will be available if needed. Brandon Barnes, who's currently hitting .379, will similarly be available from the bench.
