The Rockies and Marlins play their first of a four game set in Miami, a face-off between Chris Rusin and David Phelps. The Rockies are 1-2 against the Fish this year after dropping the first and last games of the three game series earlier in the week. The Rockies are one of only three teams in the NL with a winning road record at 14-13. The Marlins are 12-16 at home.
Chris Rusin, who has taken the rotation spot of the injured Jordan Lyles, will make his third start for the Rockies. Last Saturday’s 10-5 win over the Marlins came behind Rusin, who allowed just two runs over seven innings. The lefty is 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA heading into today’s game.
Marlins right hander, David Phelps will start his tenth game of the season with a record of 2-3, and a 4.68 ERA. Phelps was on the losing side of Ruisn’s latest outing, lasting only 3 2/3 innings after surrendering nine runs to the Rockies. Phelps’s splits show a slight advantage to right handed batters; hot hitting DJ LeMahieu had three hits off of Phelps last weekend. LeMahieu currently leads the Rockies with a .348 batting average.
Corey Dickerson and LaTroy Hawkins have both been reinstated for the trip to Miami after completing rehab assignments with Triple-A Albuquerque. Dickerson has not played since May 18th, when his flaring plantar faciitis landed him on the 15-day DL. LaTroy Hawkins, sidelined by right biceps tendonitis, last pitched for the Rockies on April 21st.
To make room on the roster for Dickerson and Hawkins, Christian Bergman and Kyle Parker have been optioned to Albuquerque. Bergman posted a 4.18 ERA over 32 1/3 innings. Parker saw just one at bat since his call up Tuesday, a pinch-hit single in yesterday’s game.
Dickerson returns to the starting lineup for tonight’s 5:10MT game against the Marlins.
