After being shutout by the Marlins and David Phelps, 6-0, in the series opener, the Colorado Rockies will look to even the four-game series at Marlins Park tonight with Kyle Kendrick on the mound.
Kendrick has seen a fair amount of success at Marlins Park in his career, with a 3.04 ERA in 26⅔ innings over four starts there with four walks and 15 strikeouts. He has also been successful against the Marlins in general, with a 3.41 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 140 innings against them.
With a right-handed pitcher on the mound, second baseman Dee Gordon and first baseman Justin Bour return to the Miami lineup, with Gordon in his customary leadoff spot and Bour batting sixth. Left fielder Christian Yelich hits third again for the Marlins, pushing right fielder Giancarlo Stanton back into the cleanup spot, as he was last night.
Miami will send rookie Jose Urena to the mound for his fourth career start. Urena had the best outing of his career Sunday at Coors Field, limiting the Rockies to a run on three hits in six innings, walking a pair and striking out four in a 3-2 Marlins win.
The Rockies lineup Urena will face tonight looks a bit different than the one he faced in his last start. Walt Weiss has added a pair of lefties to the mix with Corey Dickerson, who returned from the disabled list last night, batting sixth in left field and Ben Paulsen playing first base, batting seventh.
First pitch at Marlins Park tonight is at 5:10 p.m. Mountain time.
