The Colorado Rockies got three runs on a laser line drive home run from Carlos Gonzalez in the first inning. And that was pretty much it. They grabbed a token run in the eighth on an RBI pinch-hit single from Wilin Rosario. And that was literally it.
Gonzalez has appeared every bit the old (star level) CarGo over the last few weeks which is either a great for the team's future because he is playing better or because he is increasing his trade value.
Starting pitcher David Hale wasn't terrible but he certainly wasn't strong enough, including a mild implosion in the fifth inning that saw the Astros take the lead at 5-3 after a walk and three consecutive hard hits balls, including doubles to Preston Tucker who homered in the first and Chris Carter. Hale did manage to strike out nine, tying Jorge De La Rosa for most in a game this year by a Rockies pitcher.
His final line on the day: 5 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
Domingo Santana hit the first home run of his career in a pinch-hit role off of Scott Oberg in the eightht to make it 8-3.
The Astros have hit 12 home runs in the last four games against Rockies pitching, including two more in this one.
