The Rockies play the Brewers in the second of three games at 2:10 MT today.
Chad Bettis is on the hill for the Rockies. Bettis makes his eight start of the season for the Rockies. He was on quite a roll before hitting a rough patch. After his first start, in which he gave up four runs in five innings, he compiled a 1.91 ERA in his following four starts. In those 28.1 innings, he struck out 24 and walked only five. Bettis's last two starts haven't been as good. he went five innings in each and gave up a total of 13 hits and eight runs. His strikeouts are still there—he struck out 11 in those ten innings—which is a good sign as he hopes to get back on track today at Coors Field.
Thirty-six year old veteran Kyle Lohse gets the ball for the Brewers today. Lohse has been a durable starting pitcher for the last place Brewers—and that's pretty much all the good things one can say about 2015 Kyle Lohse. He enters with a 6.44 ERA and a 63 ERA+. Today will be the second time Lohse has faced the Rockies this season. The first time was on Opening Day. He threw 3.1 innings and gave up eight runs on ten hits. Lohse has started six games in his career at Coors Field. His 6.47 career mark in Denver pretty well matches his season ERA. As far as Rockies run scoring goes, that's a pretty good sign.
After playing nine consecutive games, Troy Tulowitzki is on the bench to start today's game. Daniel Descalso is at shortstop in his stead.
