Graveman was on his game tonight, throwing seven dominant innings while allowing just five hits. He only struck out three, but was able to get the Rockies to hit into outs.
David Hale had a rough start, allowing three home runs in the first four innings. Josh Reddick started the scoring with a two-run shot to right field, followed by a two-run bomb off the bat of Ike Davis to bring the score to 4-0 in the first inning. Billy Butler added on another run on a solo shot in the fourth.
Hale was able to settle in after that and at least provide some rest for the bullpen, throwing 100 pitches and getting through the seventh inning.
The Rockies were finally able to get onto the board in the eight inning when Charlie Blackmon led off the inning with a solo home run.
Troy Tulowitzki reached base for the fourth time of the game in the eighth inning, but the Rockies were unable to get a rally started as former Rockie Drew Pomeranz came in and got Carlos Gonzalez to strike out to end the inning.
The Athletics were able to get that run back and one more as Christian Friedrich allowed two runs in one inning of work.
Tyler Clippard came in to close things out as he got Charlie Blackmon to ground out with two runners on base to end the game.
