Chad Bettis will try to salvage the split against Mike Bolsinger and the Dodgers

Last night's game was a heartbreaker; the best way to get over it is with a win

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Rockies fans are probably still feeling a bit tender after last night's catastrophic loss to the Dodgers. That one hurt. But the beauty of baseball is that the next game is just a day away. If Chad Bettis can continue his streak of studliness, the Rockies will earn a split with the Dodgers in this series. These days I consider a series against the Dodgers a success as long as we don't get swept. They kill us.

Bettis has worked eight innings in each of his past two starts and allowed only two runs total in that span. He took a no-hitter into the eighth against the Phillies in his last outing.

The Rockies are starting essentially their "A" lineup, minus Morneau and Dickerson who are still hurt. Their loss has been mitigated by the strong play of Ben Paulsen and Brandon Barnes.

Starting for the Dodgers is Mike Bolsinger. This gentleman has a 1.15 ERA in five starts for the Dodgers. So not only do the Dodgers get to have guys like Kershaw and Greinke, but they can also have guys that you've never heard of who have ERAs in the low 1's. Sure. Sounds fair. Bolsinger started one game against the Rockies this year, going six innings and allowing three hits and no runs.

There's a forecast for showers and lightning tonight, but if the weather holds off you can watch your Rockies on ESPN2. I suppose all the Joc-mania has gotten the east-coasters excited. Hopefully the Rockies can beat up the Dodgers on national TV tonight.
