The Rockies lost 5-4 to the Padres in a seesaw game in which the Rockies never actually had the lead.
Chad Bettis turned in a decent outing. He gave the Rockies six innings, during which he allowed three runs on three hits and three walks. Bettis struck out five. The walks really hurt Bettis. After allowing a solo home run to Austin Hedges in the bottom of the third, Bettis didn't allow much until the sixth inning, when the game was tied at one. After getting the first two outs, Bettis walked Yangervis Solarte and Yonder Alonso and then gave up a double to Matt Kemp, which scored both of the runners and gave the Padres a 3-1 lead.
The Rockies came right back to tie the game in the seventh inning on RBI hits by Brandon Barnes and Wilin Rosario. But the Rockies gave the lead right back in the seventh inning, as Clint Barmes hit a two run home run off of Tommy Kahnle.
Troy Tulowitzki cut the Rockies deficit to one run on the power of a long solo home run in the eighth:
But it wasn't enough. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth to secure the Padres victory.
Tomorrow, Eddie Butler makes his return to the big leagues. He'll face off against Andrew Cashner.
