Colorado Rockies drop game one on another quiet night from their offense

Chris Rusin kept the Rockies within reach, but the struggles continued for the offense and bullpen.

The Rockies’ offense buckled under a dominant Jeremy Hellickson, watching Chris Rusin’s quality start go unbacked by his team in the 8-1 loss.

Colorado managed only one hit off of Hellickson -- a Nolan Arenado double -- heading into the top of the fifth inning.
After Nick Hundley notched a double of his own, Chris Rusin took matters into his own hands, plating Hundley on a two-out single to center field for a 1-0 Rockies lead.

The Diamondbacks answered in the bottom of the sixth, with a leadoff home run from A.J. Pollock to tie the game at a run a piece. A walk and an error by Arenado came back to haunt the Rockies when David Peralta mashed a two-out triple to right.

Rusin was done after six, allowing three runs -- one earned -- on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

Arizona broke the game open in the seventh, ringing Scott Oberg up for four runs all with one out. Justin Miller took over for a struggling Oberg, shutting down the Diamondbacks on just four pitches. The Snakes brought the total to 7-1.

David Hernandez came in to pitch the eighth, bringing Jeremy Hellickson’s day to an end. Hellickson allowed just one run on three hits in his seven innings of work.

Drew Stubbs made his first major league plate appearance since May 19 in the top of the eighth. Stubbs hit a long fly ball to right field that took Yasmany Tomas all the way to the wall, a good sign of power from the speedy centerfielder after an awful start to the 2015 season.

With Rafael Betancourt on the mound, Arizona scored again in the bottom of the eighth on Nolan Arenado's second error of the game.

Troy Tulowitzki extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the top of the ninth. Tulowitzki currently holds the longest active streak in baseball.

The Rockies dropped game one of the four-game series to the Diamondbacks.
