Johnny Giavotella delivered the final blow for Los Angeles, singling home pinch runner, and former Rockies minor leaguer, Taylor Featherston with two outs to give the win to the Angels. The Rockies put men on first and second against Angels closer Huston Street in the bottom of the ninth, but he got Ben Paulsen to ground out to second to end the threat and the game.
The Angels got on the board early, thanks to a Mike Trout solo home run against starter Chris Rusin, giving Los Angeles the early 1-0 lead.
The Rockies took the lead back in the fourth, on back-to-back doubles from Carlos Gonzalez and Nolan Arenado that were followed by singles by Ben Paulsen and Nick Hundley, pushing the Rockies in front, 2-1.
It was the only time the Rockies would score against Angels starter Matt Shoemaker, who pitched 5⅔ innings, allowing the pair of runs on nine hits, as well as two walks and two strikeouts.
Trout struck again against Rusin in the sixth, crushing a 477-foot home run to center, his 24th of the season, to tie the score at two runs each. The two solo home runs from Trout were the only damage against Rusin in six innings, as he allowed five hits and a pair of walks while striking out two.
The Rockies will continue their homestand tomorrow night, opening a four-game series with the Braves as Kyle Kendrick faces Alex Wood.
