Colorado Rockies can't figure out deGrom

He must be a pretty good pitcher, because the Rockies sure couldn't hit him.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Rockies were totally handcuffed yet again by the Mets' pitching, mustering just three hits over nine innings and getting shut out for the second night in a row. Jorge De La Rosa was solid, but when you can't score any runs, you won't win many games.

Jacob deGrom breezed through seven innings allowing two hits. The Rockies were totally helpless against his 97 mph heat and dirty sliders and baffling change ups. Even when DJ LeMahieu hit a double off deGrom and Michael McKenry walked to lead off the fifth, it still felt like deGrom was in control. He struck out Brandon Barnes, got De La Rosa on a bunt, and struck out Charlie Blackmon. Total dominance.

Meanwhile, in the fourth inning Juan Uribe, on his eighth team of the year, doubled in a run and scored on a Michael Cuddyer single. Cuddyer has been basically a corpse all year, but he still managed to hurt the Rockies in a game this season. Thanks Mike.

De La Rosa's outing was solid; six innings, seven strikeouts, and two runs. Two runs allowed would be solid at Coors; but at Citi Field against deGrom, the game felt over when the first Mets run scored.
