The Rockies showed some signs of life, but couldn't avoid the sweep in a 12-3 blowout loss to the Mets.
The scoring started early as DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado each smacked solo home runs in the top of the first to break the Rockies’ 25-inning scoreless streak.
Eddie Butler surrendered a walk and three straight doubles in the bottom half of the inning, giving the Mets a 3-2 lead after an inning.
Charlie Blackmon drew a walk to open the top of the third, taking second base on his 30th stolen base of the season. Blackmon advanced to third on a DJ LeMahieu pop-up, and scored on an RBI ground out off the bat of Carlos Gonzalez to tie the game 3-3.
The Mets jumped right back in the bottom of the third, Kelly Johnson plating Yoenis Cespedes with a two-out RBI double to take a 4-3 lead.
The Mets tacked on three more on a two-run home run from Curtis Granderson in the bottom of the fourth, and then a Kelly Johnson solo shot in the fifth off of Scott Oberg.
Oberg allowed back to back walks to Michael Conforto and Wilmer Flores to open the bottom of the sixth, before being replaced by Christian Friedrich. Both Conforto and Flores came around to score, stretching the score to 9-3.
The Mets' final blow came in the bottom of the eighth, a three-run bomb from pinch hitter Juan Lagares, bringing the score to its final of 12-3.
Kelly Johnson went 3-4 with two doubles and a homerun.
Eddie Butler takes the loss, having gone four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Noah Syndergaard worked seven innings, allowed three runs on four hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.
