Colorado Rockies look to snap losing streak against the San Diego Padres

The Rockies limp into the end of the weekend on a losing streak of six as they play the Padres in the last game of the series. They risk being swept twice consecutively following a four-game sweep at the hands of the Mets earlier in the week. Chris Rusin takes the mound and will be looking to build off of his last start against the Mets as he strives to make his case for a spot in the starting rotation next year. He allowed just one run over six innings in New York, striking out five and walking just one on 96 pitches.

If Rusin puts in a good start, he'll be continuing the trend of late for Rockies starting pitchers, who've largely done well over the six-game losing streak. With Eddie Butler's stinker the lone exception, Rockies starters have otherwise allowed just nine earned runs over 29 innings, good for a collective ERA over those five games of just 2.79. The bullpen, however, has been an entirely different story, as they've allowed a staggering 24 runs — 23 earned — over 17 innings of work. Those numbers add up to a very, very ugly 12.18 ERA for the bullpen over the last six games.

Ian Kennedy will be Rusin's opposite and is coming off of a nice start himself, allowing just one run over five innings against the Reds last Monday. He has, however, been victimized by the long ball this season and currently ranks second in most homers allowed at 25. Kennedy owns an ERA of 4.37 and has allowed just under a hit per inning and has a WHIP of 1.28.
