Rockies SS Jose Reyes makes Coors Field debut vs. Felix Hernandez, Mariners

The Rockies make a quick stop at home for a three-game set before heading back out onto the road.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Rockies start a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Coors Field tonight at 6:40 pm MST.

Eddie Butler has made two starts since being called up from Triple-A on July 24th, and he's gone 0-1 while allowing six runs over 11 innings. His command is still a concern, as he's struck out seven and walked six in those starts. This will be the first time the Mariners lineup has faced Butler.

Felix Hernandez, an 11-year veteran, has never faced the Rockies in his career. The one Rockie who has had success against Hernandez , while obviously with another team, is Jose Reyes. Reyes, who will be making his home debut as a Rockie, has gone 6-for-12 with a home run against Hernandez in his career.

The Rockies will need to avoid throwing anything over the plate to Nelson Cruz, who's hitting an outstanding .317/.380/.581 with 29 homers and 65 RBI on the year. What's even scarier is his numbers against left-handed pitchers, where he has an OPS of 1.207. Let's hope we don't see Boone Logan face him tonight.

Jose Reyes will hit second in his Coors Field debut, with Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez to follow. Reyes, in although a fairly small sample size, has only hit .254 in 114 at-bats in Colorado. Kyle Parker, who was recently called up from Triple-A, will make his second straight start and will hit eighth.
