Colorado Rockies top Padres on four solo homers

Nolan Arenado got the scoring started in the first with a two out, solo shot to left. His league leading 38th homerun of the year.

De La Rosa ran into traffic in the bottom of the first, allowing a walk and a single to put runners at first and third with one out. Derek Norris hit into a fielder's choice in ehich the lead runner, Wil Myers, was thrown out at the plate. Yangervis Solarte popped up to end the inning, keeping the Padres off the board.
Matt Kemp hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at one a piece. Back-to-back singles and a walk to Melvin Upton Jr. followed to load the bases. The Padres added a run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyson Ross, but were kept to just a one run lead.

Derek Norris extended the lead to 3-1 with a sac fly of his own in the fifth.

De La Rosa threw five innings, tagged for three runs on six hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

Corey Dickerson narrowed the Padres' lead with a solo homer of his own in the top of the sixth, his sixth of the year and first since April 23rd. 
Carlos Gonzalez tied the game 3-3 on his 37th homerun of the season in the seventh, an opposite field shot into the left field corner. This season, the Rockies own five of the eight homeruns Tyson Ross has surrendered.

Tyson Ross was done after seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, no walks and six strikeouts.

Daniel Descalso lead off the eighth with a no-doubter to right off Joaquin Benoit to break the tie and give the Rockies a 4-3 advantage.

The Rockies' bullpen was spotless in their four innings of relief. Scott Oberg, Justin Miller, Jairo Diaz and John Axford combined for eight strikeouts without allowing a hit.
After his brilliant, four-strikeout outing in Monday's victory, Justin Miller struck out the side in the Padres' half of the seventh. His seven consecutive strikeouts are a franchise record.
