The Tourists lost to the Savannah Sand Gnats in game two of the first round South Atlantic League postseason. The Gnats win forces a deciding game three, which they will play tonight in Savannah.
Jesus Tinoco wasn't around to save the Tourists from the Sand Gnats on Friday. It wasn't a close game. After the Tourists went down in order in the top of the first inning, the Gnats sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the first. Starter Carlos Polanco was shelled for seven runs on five hits, two of which were doubles, and two walks. He recorded just two outs. Yoelly Bello entered the game with two outs and the bases loaded; he gave up a three-run double, each of the runs credited to Polanco, before getting the Tourists out of the inning.
But Asheville was never able to make a game of it. The Sand Gnats added a run in the second inning, making it an 8-to-0 game after two. The Tourists scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, but that's all they could muster. The Tourists had seven hits on the day—all singles.
No Asheville batter had more than one hit on the day. Forrest Wall, Dom Nunez, and Wes Rogers were among those gathering a base hit.
The Tourists and Sand Gnats will play the third and final game of the series tonight starting at 4:05 MT. The winner will move on to the SAL championship series The starters have not yet been announced.
