Rockies top prospect Jon Gray finding success while making adjustments on the fly

The No. 1 PuRP has a 3.17 FIP through eight starts. Shut up.

As Nick Groke notes, Gray is making changes to his delivery on the fly while still trying to figure out how to pitch to big league hitters. And yet, he sports a 3.17 FIP through 36 MLB innings spanning eight starts. He's going to be fine, folks.

Our friend Thomas Harding is back in the booth after some time off and has some good stuff from Walt Weiss and Gray regarding the rookie's outing, in which he held up very well against the best pitcher in baseball and a potent lineup. A snippet:

"It was the biggest stage I have ever been on," Gray said. "Knowing that I can go out and perform well is a huge boost of confidence. This small step tonight is going to be big later on."

Matt Snyder opines that the Rockies need to blow the whole thing up. They may have already started doing that with the Troy Tulowitzki trade, but we'll find out this offseason just how serious Jeff Bridich is about starting over. He'll likely have opportunities to deal Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon, Jorge De La Rosa, DJ LeMahieu, Nick Hundley and others. The question is, will he do it?

I watched Bogaerts play in person for the first time last week, and he absolutely reminds me of a young version of the shortstop in the other team's starting lineup that day (I'm sure you can figure out who I'm referring to). This guy is going to be a good one.
