The Rockies and Padres will play for the nineteenth and final time of the 2015 season. The Padres have already won the season series, as they've taken 11 of the 18 games thus far. It's the first time since 2012 that the Padres have won the season series.

Innings masticator Kyle Kendrick gets the ball for the Rockies. It's his 25th start of the season and the fourth against the Padres. In the previous three, Kendrick has thrown 17 innings, during which he's compiled a 6.88 ERA. That small sample mark isn't far from his 6.15 season ERA, which would be the worst in baseball if he had enough innings pitched to qualify.

Kendrick's primary issue this year has been allowing home runs. Heading into today's game, he's allowed 2.0 home runs per nine innings. If he ends the season allowing more than two dingers per nine innings, he'll be the first pitcher with at least 120 innings pitched to do so since since Bronson Arroyo in 2011.

The Padres counter with James Shields, who will make his 32nd start of the year for the Padres and fifth against the Rockies. He has a 5.24 ERA in 22 1/3 innings against Colorado. Only one of his four previous starts against the Rockies came at Coors Field. It was an April 22 start; he allowed six hits and three runs in six innings pitched.

For the season as a whole, Shields has had a below average year relative to the league and a poor one in terms of his standards. His 4.74 DRA is about ten percent below league average, and according to Baseball Prospectus's pitcher Wins Above Replacement Player he's been worth only about a quarter of a win for the Padres.

Tom Murphy gets the day game off; Cristhian Adames is at shortstop today.
