The Colorado Rockies look to avoid the four-game sweep behind Chad Bettis

The Rockies and playoff-bound Pirates meet for the final time in 2015 for a little day baseball in the Mile High City.

The Rockies and the Pirates close out their season series in Denver this afternoon, as Colorado looks to avoid the four-game sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm MT.

Chad Bettis gets the nod for the Rockies, making his 19th start of the season. Bettis is 8-5 with a 4.46 ERA on the year, 4-3 at home. Bettis has faired well in day games, posting a 3.45 ERA in five games, with batters hitting just .250 against him. In his last two starts, Bettis has gone 2-0, allowing just one run over 12 innings.
The right-hander will get his first look at the aggressive Pirates’ lineup since a relief appearance in July of last year.

Bettis will be opposed by Pirates lefty, Jeff Locke. Locke has struggled a bit for Pittsburgh this season, posting a 8-11 record with a 4.48 ERA. In his last start, Locke took the loss after allowing five runs in just over six innings of work against the Dodgers. The Pirates have not lost a game since.

Corey Dickerson, hitting in the leadoff spot tonight for the Rockies, has five hits in nine at bats in this series with the Pirates, a .555 batting average with two doubles and a homerun.

Nolan Arenado returns to the lineup after leaving Tuesday’s game in the ninth with a facial contusion suffered while fielding a sharp ground ball off the bat of Jordy Mercer.
