In the wake of Monfort's letter to season-ticket holders last Wednesday, Patrick Saunders has a piece asking the Rockies' owner to spend more money. With a total payroll of $120.5 million, 19th in the majors, the Rockies have a hill to climb if they want to keep up with the Dodgers ($279 million) and Giants ($183 million).
The only reason I have this link here is because it briefly mentions the Rockies as a possible trade partner with Arizona for Goldschmidt. Cool to think about, I guess, but I can't see it happening.
On the other end of the payroll discussion are the Indians, whose payroll ranked 23rd this year. After sweeping the Red Sox, the Tribe are rolling against the Blue Jays and took a 2-0 lead in the ALCS last night with a gutsy win. Andrew Miller has been making the Blue Jays look foolish and the Indians are getting contributions from a host of different players.
