Ryan McMahon among Rockies prospects impressing in the Arizona Fall League

News and notes from a baseball-less October day

Jen Mac Ramos

The World Series is baseball’s showcase event. Players bundle up to endure bitter cold in hopes of bringing home that which they have been pursuing since they first set foot in an Arizona spring training complex eight months ago. There are no other games, no other distractions, just the Cubs and Indians duking it out. Of course that means when we hit an off day, the baseball news dries up a bit.

But, hark, what’s that? A crack of the bat out of the Valley of the Sun? Why, it’s the Arizona Fall League, here to save us from a baseball-less existence, at least for one day!

Jim Callis of MLBPipeline offers a check in with the Rockies prospects playing the the Arizona Fall League. McMahon, who has played six of his eight games in the AFL at first base, talks about how much he’s enjoyed learning the new position and how he hopes his struggles this year will better prepare him for life in the big leagues. Callis also offers an update on other Rockies farmhands playing in the AFL, including some of the lesser known names.

Also, since there are no World Series games tonight, tune in to MLB.com to watch the Salt River Rafters take on the Scottsdale Scorpions at 9:35 pm ET. Tim Tebow will be playing in the game, for whatever that’s worth to you.
